We are excited to welcome Sequoyah Burke-Combs to Lux Neon Art Gallery, a Miami-based mixed media artist whose profound journey of healing and self-discovery is beautifully reflected in his work. Drawing inspiration from his experiences of loss and resilience, Sequoyah’s art serves as a powerful exploration of the human condition, inviting viewers to confront their own shadows.
Having lost his mother and brother to suicide, Sequoyah has faced significant challenges, grappling with feelings of unworthiness and deep shame. Despite these struggles, he has turned to art as a means of exploration and expression. For Sequoyah, creating is not just a passion; it’s a form of catharsis that allows him to confront his shadows and transform pain into beauty. His artwork acts as a healing balm, inviting others who have faced similar hardships to break free from the cycle of survival and share their own stories of resilience.
A self-taught artist for the past seven years, Sequoyah's creations often draw on surreal elements and focus on “remembering our nature.” He seamlessly blends aspects of the natural world with sacred geometry and human figures, encouraging viewers to reflect on their connection to both their inner selves and the universe around them. His diverse heritage—Native American, African American, and Irish—infuses each piece with rich cultural narratives, as he weaves ancestral messages and spiritual codes into his artwork.
We invite you to visit his captivating piece, "The Guardian," on display at Lux Neon Art Gallery. This artwork is dedicated to all the guardians—those often unrecognized individuals who protect and love the beacons of hope in our lives. As Sequoyah beautifully states, "Whether you are the guardian or the beacon, seen or unseen, you are loved and needed in this world."
Experience this heartfelt tribute and connect with the artist's powerful message of love and resilience. Follow Sequoyah on Instagram at @sequoyahbc to stay updated on his latest works and exhibitions.
